Tammikuun Valo - Sebastian Lindberg, Arttu Sailo, Taira Tiger and Rose-Mari Torpo
Paintings 5.3 - 29.3.2015 Galleria Rantakasarmi Welcome to the opening on the 4th of March from 5 - 7pm The exhibition Tammikuun Valo offers four different approaches on experiencing colour, surface and material. Sebastian Lindberg and Arttu Sailo are figurative painters while Taira Tiger’s and Rose-Mari Torpo’s works belong to the abstract painting tradition. The works elaborate concepts such as harmony, contrast, movement and lack of motion. The groups common denominator is a colour based way of working. The themes in the exhibition are observing the mind and the external world as well as the physical approach to painting. The materiality and the immateriality create contrast between the works and the artists. The viewer participates in the creation of the art work’s concept with his observance and presence. Galleria Rantakasarmi Suomenlinna C1, 00190 Helsinki Open: Tue-Thu 12-5.30pm, Fri-Sun 11.30-4pm www.helsingintaiteiljaseura.fi Ekho / Kaiku
Rose-Mari Torpo Installation and paintings Galleria 3H+k 30.1 - 19.2.2015 Opening on 29th of January from 6pm Welcome The themes in the exhibition are reiteration and reflection through colour. The installation “ Kaiku/ Ekho” consists of the diary entries of the year 2014 displayed in chronological order in the space. Each diary entry is a reiteration of an oval stencil noted with its date and its colour. I have selected a neutral shape, the oval as a symbolic representation to the day. Like the words in a diary, the colour given to the oval represents the feeling, emotions, moods, light or colour in the nature of that day. When colouring the oval, I tried to use as less texture as possible so the hues and tonality remain the most important components. In this project I studied the potential of the colour as a mean of expression and the relations between individual and communal experiencing. Each of us have a very individual way of sensing and feeling about colours. There are no general verified rules related to how we sense colours and for example which colours represent joy or sadness or hope etc..thus this diary is a personal view on the subject. The paper serves as a media to reflect life and to document time. The installation transforms a private diary into public. The paintings in the exhibition are an extension of the installation both in terms of content and form. Paintings of colour and movement. My newest paintings are the result of a process of experimenting with and observing liquid colour. A running colour that would mix and interact on the surface with the other tonalities creating new hues and surprising shapes. Combining the unpredictable movements of liquid colours with the physical movements is the focus of this series. Each brush stroke is visible and can be related to a movement. My artistic research is inspired by the sight and sounds of the places around me, physical or mental places, nature and urban environment. My work explores fundamental elements of painting, the relationship between colour and line. I focus on movement, rhythm , layers and transparency of colour that create new spaces. The paintings are part of a series that will be exhibited in Gallery Å in Turku next August. Organized by AVA Gallery, Helsinki In Gallery Il Collezzionista Rome, Italy ![]() MAREA / ΜΑΡΕΑ Michela Pelusio / Rose-Mari Torpo at Mesogeios 13.6– 27.6.2013 opening Thursday 13.6, 17:00 Marea presents the works of Michela Pelusio and Rose-Mari Torpo, two international artists who have been drawn to Heraklion. Pelusio and Torpo have found themselves working adjacent to the sea in Heraklion for the past three years. The exhibition is, therefore, not only telling of the exchange between artist and sea but also of the come and go of artists from around the world, adding in their turn to the artistic life of the island. Marea is not a delivery of seascapes in a traditional sense, but rather a living translation of the sea’s rhythms via the bodies of the artists and on to often surprising media. Breaking away from convention, replication of the visual aspect of the sea is done away with, in place for an interpretation of the sensorial and even the scientific aspect of wave in visual terms.
